Privacy Policy

RubyRoles (rubyrole.com) is operated by Matthew Solt, doing business as RoboRuby, 1972 Homestead Ave, Bethlehem, PA 18018, USA. This policy says what we collect, why, who helps us process it, and what you can do about it.

What we collect

• From GitHub, when you sign in: your GitHub id and login, name, avatar, bio, the location text on your profile, the email addresses GitHub shares with us, and the public metadata of your public Ruby repositories (names, descriptions, topics, stars, languages, dates). We never read private repositories and never post on your behalf.
• Your answers: how Ruby-focused your next role should be, your level, how you like to work, the city and region you gave us and the radius you chose, where a job can be based, and the minimum salary you would consider, if you gave one.
• Your matches and emails: which postings we showed or sent you, and whether you unsubscribed.
• Feedback: what you write in the feedback form and, if you leave it, an email address for a reply.
• Technical logs: request logs with IP addresses and browser details, kept for a short time to run and secure the service.

How we use it

To build and score your matches, to send the emails you signed up for, to answer your feedback, and to run, secure and improve the service. Matches are scored by software, including AI models that compare a posting with your answers and public profile. No decision with legal or similarly significant effects is made about you automatically; a match is a suggestion you are free to ignore.

Location

We keep your location at city and region level, resolved to coordinates from the GeoNames database (licensed under CC BY 4.0). We do not ask for or store a street address.

Who processes data for us

• Cloudflare hosts the service, delivers our email, and provides cookieless web analytics.
• PlanetScale hosts our database.
• GitHub handles sign-in and provides your profile data with your consent.
• OpenRouter and TypeSafe run the models that score matches; they receive posting text and the parts of your answers and public profile needed for scoring.
• beehiiv receives your email address only if you subscribe to the Ruby AI News newsletter, which is separate from match emails.

We do not sell personal data. Our sponsor, SerpApi, receives no personal data from the service.

Cookies

We use one cookie, for your signed-in session. There are no advertising or tracking cookies.

Retention and deletion

We keep your data while your account exists. Deleting your account from your preferences removes your profile, answers and matches. Unsubscribing stops match emails but keeps your account until you delete it. Feedback and technical logs are kept as long as needed to act on them and secure the service.

Your rights

You can see and change your answers on your preferences page, delete your account there, and unsubscribe from any email with the link in it. To ask for a copy of your data or raise a concern, write to matt@roboruby.com. Depending on where you live you may also have rights under laws such as the GDPR or the CCPA, which we honor on request.

Children

The service is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 16.

Changes

When this policy changes materially we post the new version here with a new effective date.
